This page contains various Frequently Asked Questions regarding our web and email services.
How do I view traffic statistics for my website?
You can view stats for your web site by visiting http://yourdomain.co.uk/plesk-stat/webstat/ where yourdomain.co.uk is the address of your site eg brownrs.co.uk
You will need to enter you control panel username and password to view this page.
How do I upload files to my web space?
There are 2 methods you can use to upload files to your web space.
- Using the Plesk control panel software
- Using FTP (File Transfer Protocol)
1. Using the Plesk control panel software
This is probably the simplest way to upload files to your web space but for multiple files or large uploads you are advised to use FTP.
- log into your control panel using the details provided in the email you received when setting up hosting
- click on the domain you wish to upload to
- click on File Manager
- click on the folder httpdocs - this is where files to be view on the web go
- remove the current index.html file by selecting the checkbox to the very right and then click on remove selected
- you can then select Add New File and choose files for upload from your hard drive
2. Using FTP (File Transfer Protocol)
In the email that you received when your hosting was set up you will have been provided with details of ftp server, username and password. Both Windows XP and Mac OS X have built in FTP capabilities although you may wish to use a 3rd party client which offers more features.
Windows XP
- Go to My Network Places and under Network Tasks to the left select Add a network place
- Click Next when the wizard appears
- Click Next with Choose another network location highlighted
- Enter the Internet or Network address as ftp://yourdomain.co.uk (where yourdomain.co.uk is the server name you were given in the setup email) then click Next
- Deselect 'Log on anonymously' and enter your user name in the box and click Next
- Click Next and then Finish
- You will be asked for your password
- Your web space will now open in an Explorer window and you can use this as you would a normal folder. Remember the httpdocs folder is where files to be seen on your web site go
- For future use you can now just click on the icon that has been created in My Network Places which will have the name of your server address
Mac OS X
- In Finder select Go > Connect To Server...
- In the Server Address box type ftp://yourdomain.co.uk where yourdomain.co.uk is the server name you were given in the setup email
- Click on Connect
- You will now need to enter your username and password then click OK.
- Your webspace will now be available in a new Finder window
- Remember the httpdocs folder is where files to be seen on your web site go
3rd Party FTP clients
You may want to try dedicated FTP software. Here are some products you could try:-
- Windows - Coffee Cup FTP, WS_FTP
- OS X - Fetch, Transmit
