13 April 2007 : Google Checkout launched in UK
Google have launched their online payment system 'Checkout' in the UK. Checkout is for processing credit and debit card payments for online transactions. Having debuted in the US nine months ago, it will allow UK merchants to process payments fee-free until the end of 2007. Thereafter, the fee will be 15p + 1.5% of each transaction. Google Adwords customers, however, will get £10 worth of payment processing free for every £1 spent on advertising with Google. This compares very favourably with Checkout’s main competitor, Ebay’s Paypal payment system - their fee per transaction being 20p + 3.4% (on sales of < £1,500/month).
For more information or to sign up for Checkout go to http://checkout.google.co.uk.
